Understanding the importance of fostering professional development and knowledge-sharing, we offer customized seminars on a wide range of engineering topics, tailored to meet the specific needs and requirements of your organization.
Whether you're looking for a brief and informative 1-hour lunch session or an in-depth multiple-day training program, we have you covered.
Working closely with you to identify your specific training needs we’ll craft an engaging session combining theoretical knowledge, practical examples, and interactive discussions to ensure maximum knowledge retention.
To ensure the training is continually put into action, a monthly in-person check-in can be scheduled. We will continue to discuss the impact the training has had on their approach to operating the facility and share ideas around potential improvement strategies. It is my goal to serve the industry as a mentor/coach and be available to help everyone I work with continue their learning and find additional ways to grow and develop.
Think of this as the start of an
on-going RCx program where they are continually reminded of how valuable their efforts are to achieving your efficiency and sustainability targets, metrics are developed to track progress, and help is just a phone call away.
Simply put, sometimes a massive undertaking isn't needed and you want a little help figuring something out. Having managed energy projects and programs in the past I can be available to help you on your journey by providing assistance with engineering challenges and technical program development.
However, I don't pretend to know everything - sometimes I'll have the solution while other times it may be more prudent to connect you with someone I trust who can serve your needs better.
I can't promise to solve everything, but I do promise that my only focus will be on how to best achieve your goals.
The program starts with meeting the team to learn about their current practices, to walk through the systems, and identify the challenges they face and potential for improvement. Using a highly collaborative process, the building equipment, current operations practices, and operator knowledge base are assessed.
After gaining this valuable insight, along with an understanding of the business’s overarching goals and specific needs, a customized training program will be crafted to engage the operations team, teach critical thinking, identify opportunities, and create a culture of continuous improvement.
The training will show the direct correlation of the systems they operate to business needs and energy goals, and blends in-class sessions with field sessions in mechanical rooms, ensuring we couple engineering theory with practical, hands-on experience.
One of the many intended outcomes of a good training program is to equip the operations team with the knowledge and tools needed to identify, implement, and sustain energy savings without the need for outside help.
By framing the day-to-day operations in the context of the organization’s larger goals, your team will appreciate how valuable their efforts are to achieving your efficiency and sustainability targets. This creates alignment around a common goal which leads to improved engagement between team members since we all want to feel that our work is serving a larger purpose.
To accomplish this, the training will focus on using energy best practices, the use of testing equipment to validate equipment operation, developing trends with the building automation systems and seeing ways to address long-standing issues. In order to show the value of these improvements, learners will be taught how to quantify improvements and develop simple payback analyses. Ultimately, the training is designed to teach your operators how to be their own retro-commissioning provider.
*For facilities that pay into the SBC, we can utilize NYSERDA’s Building Operations and Maintenance Workforce Develop and Training Program to have the program funded 70-90%.
Now is my chance to make that happen.
Truth be told, I love to share and help those around me in any way possible.
It’s why I first became a consultant 20+ years ago.
It’s also why I started teaching over a decade ago and always sought ways to help design and deliver classes at union schools, hospitals and with several state/city agencies.
It’s why I’ve been part of industry associations and spoken at dozens of conferences.
It’s also why, outside of work, I've been a martial arts instructor, hockey coach, religious education teacher, volunteer with the Special Olympics and involved in church ministry.
My calling to serve.
I’ve been fortunate to work in a wide array of buildings, on all types of systems, and with people at all levels of building operations and management. That experience helped strengthen my ability to understand, empathize and communicate with everyone, and find ways to encourage others as we pursued a common goal. I thrive on collaboration and want everyone to feel like a valued member of the team.
Having experience ranging from performing field work to much larger endeavors like developing portfolio-wide energy programs, I see the value of each action taken and how it connects to the larger picture. This is why my vision of training isn’t limited to the classroom but moves lessons into the mechanical rooms to take the theoretical and make it realistic, practical, and possible.
Helping someone learn a new practice, achieve a goal, or just finding a way to improve their day is what brings me the most joy. Which is why, even after the training program is over, I am available to help answer questions, provide guidance or lend support.
